Digital overload because of accidental high volume for almost any reason is usually fatal to the show. That's why you always record low and mess with it later in post production.

Re: Exporting Problems
Yes, completely. If I'm involved in a critical capture, I not only Export As WAV, but I make a protection copy of the WAV on media that I've been known to lock up. Most people don't need that level of obsessiveness and compulsion, but I've never lost a performance because the Project failed, either....

Re: Live Recording 5,000 hours
<<<How much disk space>>> Let's assume a Very Large Amount of space. I know eventually, that's always going to kill you, but I don't want that to be a significant part of the decision. You don't have to worry about the big-eyes, frightened 40GB system drive trying to do all this work. OK, so they wi...

This is a thing on DC being in your show by accident... http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=DC_Management I swear you have all the symptoms of battery voltage being in places where it shouldn't. If you put your show on the timeline and move the cursor to the left into the tool area left, it...

Re: Live Recording 5,000 hours
I have graceful relationships with all three although I know it doesn't sound like that from the rants. Document management and processing is all in Windows and I have fairly powerful SUDO corporate UNIX privileges.

Live Recording 5,000 hours
Just kidding. The real question came up as an answer to another question further up. I want to (hypothetically) record a Very Large Amount of Time. Which operating system would you want to be in to do that? Which OS would be least likely to cause tears and a furrowed brow?

Re: Can I Record On The Fly?
Audacity will not create WAV or MP3 files as it goes. Straight capture and playback from internal buffers are the only two things Audacity does in real time. Audacity keeps captured work in tiny snippets in a system directory. There's no theoretical limit to how long you can go and it's not limited ...

Re: Pop/Click Noise when applying effects or trimming
This can happen if you have DC or battery voltage mixed in with your sound. It's fairly common to have cheaper digitizers do this by accident. I have two cheap microphone USB adapters with the same model number. One does it, one doesn't. You can Apply Effects > Normalize > Remove DC (only) Which can...

Re: Audacity 1.2.6 crashes when applying effect
The filters tend to be memory hogs. I don't know if you can do any sort of serious production work with that much memory. Audacity works in High Quality Uncompressed internally which gives you a 30 minute show of about 350MB with no effects, processing or UNDO -- that that's no matter how the show s...
