Re: "error opening file" problem solved

If somebody has a gun and is forcing you to move a project, you can increase your chances of success over the suggestions already listed by changing the preferences so Audacity Projects copy music inside themselves instead of leaving imported clips where they started. Missing this one step up is cau...

This process chances a lot depending on what kind of computer you have and some machines make this very difficult.

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files

I think you stumped the band in 24 time zones. What does our contestant win, Johnny Olsen?

Re: Bulk Normalize

This is an extreme example of what you can do by taking MP3 too far. MP3 always does a little bit of this to your show more or less depending on settings and filesize. The damage is cumulative. Every time you edit an MP3 file in Audacity, it gets worse. http://www.kozco.com/tech/WAV-MP3.wav Koz

Re: Can't close Audacity, it keeps reloading

Oh, I do remember this. I got burned with this a long time ago. It's not that the program relaunches itself from a cold start -- like you would be editing a Word document and Audacity would suddenly pop up -- it just never leaves. I think in Mac it was a little more surreal. Audacity > Exit would cl...

Re: Splicing problems

<<<but having saved it to WAV >>>

Which would be rough to do since Audacity will not save a WAV file.

Open Audacity again with your show and File > Export As WAV.

Re: Sound has disappeared from .au files

<<<It happened between the time they listened to the file and the time they saved it.>>>

Which would have been the first time they needed extra hard drive space and serious File System Management all of which goes in the toilet when the drive gets over 90% full.

Re: Can't close Audacity, it keeps reloading

<<<I searched this forum and couldn't find an answer.>>> Not surprising. First I heard of it. You are launching each operating system's own Audacity, right? You're not trying to launch the XP one from Vista? Who does your virus protection? That's one explanation for Sudden Computer Insanity. Audacit...

Re: Problem with either cassette deck or settings...

Oh, it's much worse than that. You want to apply the sound signals that the cassette machine will not supply to you to the computer that won't accept them even if you had them. Let's start with the computer. Do you have a large deskside machine with a good sound card that has a blue connector labele...
