<<<cant find a way to true mixing. >>> I'd be calling this "special effects" rather than "true mix," but I don't do live club mixing, either. Since Audacity doesn't do anything in real time, you'll need to set this up. You'll need four tracks; 1-Flat, 1-No Bass, 2-Flat, 2-No Bass...

Leopard/Intel. Cool. There is no stable Audacity 1.2 for us. Your program will do weird and wacky things as long as you continue to use it. I use 1.3.7 from here... <<<I import a file into a project >>>
What happens if you just open the clip instead of importing it? If you are forced into importing it, then it may be a music format hat Audacity doesn't get along with very well.

Re: I was using audacity, and for some reason...
Many applications have two volume controls. iTunes, QuickTime, and DVDPlayer all let you adjust volume in addition to the main volume control on the desktop. Is everything turned up?

You may have seriously scrambled preference files. Close Audacity and trash the configuration(preference) files. Trash Mac Audacity Preferences http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8250&hilit=problems+with+save+with+export&start=10#p34670 When you restart Audacity, it shoul...

Are you capturing from your new USB turntable? They're throw-away devices and sometimes you need to throw them away before you're done.
