Select a short segment of a capture and Effect > Amplify to a very large number plus check the [x] Allow Clipping box. When I do that, my timeline lights up an explosion of red at thousands of clip points.

Re: What Happened To The "Other" Audacity?
Normalize changes the level of the whole show at once so that the highest peak lands exactly at the value you set in the tool. If you didn't pick a value and check the box, the tool will do nothing. Worse, if you pick a value lower than the highest peak, the volume will go down. I think the default ...

Re: Is it possible to add a marker on the fly?
That must be another shortcoming with the earlier version. Apple-B gives me a marker every time I press it, but all of them are stacked at zero time. They don't reflect the running time I pressed them. I can run the Very Latest Version and under Snow Leopard, but I don't have anything actually runni...

Does that number mean anything? Why 4001?

<<<blue curve more closing by setting "Length of filter" to the maximum >>> What's the metaphor they're trying for? The number of Ls and Cs in the filter; the physical length of the filter laid out on the breakfast table and therefore the Q or pole number? Or did I miss something? Does it ...

Re: Guitars - Line in or Mic?
Anything that involves "A Microphone" also involves recording the room that it's in. So yes, if you're fond of messing with the effects on your amplifier or like the sound of the cabinet, then you have no choice but to use the live microphone. But if you have a very live or noisy room, the...

Re: Is it possible to add a marker on the fly?
More oddities. Apple-M is supposed to add a label on the fly during playback, but it doesn't and it's gray on my machine.

Re: Is it possible to add a marker on the fly?
That's because Audacity doesn't have Markers. Wish that it did. Audacity has Labels and I always thought I could place one during the recording with Apple-B. But apparently, I can't. I do get labels, but they're in the wrong place.
I wonder if one of the newer versions allows that.

<<<I'd use the one I find is the most stable for me in my application>>> Which would be? If this filter thing is still broken in 1.3.9 and 1.3.10 is still going through Major Changes every half-hour.... You see where I'm going with this? There is no workable production program. That's why I'm still ...

<<<I download the nightly build and try it out every day.>>>
I have a slightly different application. I have to explain to some powerful Hollywood production types why it failed.
Now which one would you use?
