Re: mixing in a cross fade
I think the only way to do that (a dissolve, by the way, not a fade), is to create a new rack and use the fade tools, or the envelope tool. I hope you're in Audacity 1.3. Track > New Stereo Track. Paste your second song onto the second track with the first song on the first. Slide the second song so...

Re: LISTENING TO FIRST TRACK WHILE RECORDING SECOND TRACK
<<<latest version free of audacity >>> Numbers are good. "I'm using Audacity 1.2.6." It sounds like the computer can't keep up. You're asking it to play back, record, and time share manage at the same time. If there was going to be a stress point, this would be it. If you have an older com...

Re: sound device gone
Since this is a custom built computer, you must have an old sound card in the garage you could try in place of the existing one. No doubt the new one has hot and cold running beer, but just to prove the system, putting a known older simple one in might prove useful. It's remotely possible Audacity h...

Re: High Pass Filter....Oops
No problem, we'll leave it all the way up, then. It seems to do a much better job up there.

Re: 'Show Clipping' not showing anymore
<<<obvious clipping seen in the waveform window.>>> Yes, but at what level is it clipping? With the left edge set to "Waveform" (as opposed to Waveform dB), select one of the obvious clipped waves and zoom into it with Apple-E so it covers most of the screen. Move the cursor to the left un...

How Long is it?
With regard to the bottom-right of the 1.3 equalizer tool, I'm equalizing my voice. How long should my filter be and why?

Re: What Happened To The "Other" Audacity?
<<<Sorry...it was the "Leveller". >>> Oh, yes. Leveler is the blood on the walls, ripped up carpet, brute force compressor. Actually, that's generous. It's a clipper. I sent my voice through it twice at one time to get the Air Traffic Controller voice. "Southwest Two-Six come to headi...

Re: 'Show Clipping' not showing anymore
If you did a system update, it' s possible the volume controls settled back down to where they're probably supposed to be in the first place. If you get red lines during a live capture, that's permanent ticky crunchy sound damage. Non recoverable.
