Re: Noob to trying to make a live performance tolerable

I always thought these things has a certain auto volume control, but this one didn't. The overload is permanent. There are tools to help overload and clipping, but not when a third of the performance is distortion. The tools will just give you different distortion. Audacity 1.3 has an effect called ...

Re: Digital "analog" tape hiss?

M-Audio equipment uses ASIO sound drivers. Audacity doesn't support ASIO. I assume you're in Windows? See if the equipment has Windows drivers and use them.

Re: silent mp3 export

Fluffy idea. You can get unstable MP3 exports if you use Audacity's default production value of 32-Floating instead of the more conventional 16-bit. Audacity > Preferences > Quality > Default Sample Format. Open up one of the MP3 files that fail in QuickTime instead of iTunes and press Apple-I for t...

You can sometimes get more information on where the problem is if you cause a little intentional damage and then see what happens. You need one piece of hardware... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CMR203 Plug that into the Line-In of the Mac -- tiny circle with two black arrows. Plug it in fi...

Re: Playback visual error

I got it. I dug down to my Audacity 1.2.5, and what do you know, the cursor leaps about the timeline instead of smoothly progressing. Upgrading is more interesting than you think. I use 1.3.7 for everything. It has some minor oddities, but all in all, it's well behaved. Audacity 1.3.7 -- Mac http://...

Re: Playback visual error

You can put Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine safely as long as you only use one at a time. Still, my Mini is almost exactly your machine down to the Tiger version. I do multiple hours of production each week on this machine. I used to ...... Wait. I'm just waking up here. Are you using Audacity ...

Re: Playback visual error

No, no, no. You got a lot more problems than just Audacity. Audacity is the coal mine canary. If you try to use a marginal computer with Audacity, it will turn into a pile of mud in a hurry. There might be another problem. Apple > About This Mac > Processor and Version. Read me those two items. My M...
