Re: How to improve recording quality?
Can we assume you can listen to the Mackie with headphones and you have exactly the show you want to record? I would have thought that the Lenovo machines would do better..... Anyway, most Windows laptops will not connect directly to your Mackie. I couldn't find the spec for your particular IBM, but...

Re: Picking up radio signals
There is one even easier one. Unplug the microphone and clean the connector thoroughly with glass cleaner and paper towels. It should look like one of these. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audioconnectors/audioconnectors.html Dry it off with more towels and plug it back into the computer several times an...

Re: Picking up radio signals
College radio stations don't have towers unless they're Really Big and Important, and then they're FM, not AM which doesn't cause as many problems. No, instead of a tower, they radiate from the whole building. It's called carrier current and they actually send radio signals down the power lines in t...

Re: Picking up radio signals
<<<line-in headset mike>>> Your laptop almost certainly doesn't have a powerful, high level, stereo, Line-In. If your microphone works, it does have a delicate, sensitive, mono, microphone input. "Delicate" and "Sensitive" do not get along well if you have a radio station in your...

Re: silent mp3 export
<<<file save box activating keyboard shortcuts sounds familiar.>>> Yes. Which version of Audacity exactly are you using? Audacity > About Audacity. We usually get this problem with using the wrong Audacity -- typically 1.2 on an Intel machine, but you're on a Power PC. <<<usually just under 60 MB fo...

Re: how to remove music and keep vocals?
It does. Vocal Removal (karaoke generator -- offically: Center Pan Remover)) has been available for a while. It doesn't work, but it's been available. At least one of these packages claims Vocal Isolation. Voice Removal or Isolation --Center Pan Remover (Voice Remover--Search the page for "Cent...

Re: Voice Manipulation
Exactly. Convincing echoes should not slap you in the head. Everyone is in love with digital manipulation, but if you just can't get what you want without licensing fees, put a speaker and microphone in the bathroom or large, bare bedroom. Gently mix it in as an effects track behind the performer. W...
Re: Editing
Unless they've changed, Audacity Labels are very light-weight compared to Edit Markers. If you video edit, you can pick an In Point on the timeline and press "I," pick an Out Point and press "O" and then delete, enhance, or other wise manipulate the area between the two markers -...
