Re: iTunes Importing

I can tell you Audacity doesn't support Apple AAC music format. Is this a purchased song? In addition to the format problem, the song is going to have FairPlay copy protection on it. The traditional way to get around that is to create a playlist with that one song in it and then burn a Music CD. Tak...

Re: Recording but No Sound

There does have to be actual blue waves, not a straight line.

Does yours look something like that? I understand the red recording meters may look different.

Depending on your answer, we go down different paths.

Re: Digital "analog" tape hiss?

<<<Hmm nice I didn't know you could watch the levels even w/o hitting record - thanks for that tip!>>> I do sound testing and I live in that mode. I don't think you have a lot of choices. You'll have to split the system up. Plug your USB thing into something else or just unplug it altogether and see...

Re: Using Audacity with SB Live! 24-bit External sound

You also need to make sure you're not playing or recording anything else. In particular, you should not have Mix-Out or What-U-Hear selected. That will give you a very serious echo effect like a very small bathroom. There are a number of those, like recording from your USB device and the computer bu...

Re: How to improve recording quality?

<<<because it's supposed to be mic-level, not line-level! >>> It's only a thousand to one mismatch. Do you have high tension power lines over your house? That's the difference between those and a flashlight battery. You need to dig in the specifications of each device. That's why we posted them. I t...

Apple > About This Mac > read Processor and Version.

Which Audacity exactly, all three numbers? Audacity > About

From the desktop. Go > Computer > Control-Click the hard drive > Get Info. Read Capacity and Available.

Re: Potential new user - question on suitability

You already went too far. Once you export into MPEG4 and MP3, that's it. Those are delivery formats, not production formats because they damage the show. If you pulled the music tracks into Audacity and messed with it, the damage would go up as you create the new MP3 -- even if you did nothing to th...

Re: How to improve recording quality?

<<<Main out (mono) to line in.>>> Is it Line-In? Really? Most laptops have mono microphone connections, not stereo Line-In. Rare laptops have both. Do you have both a pink and a blue connector? Plugging a Powerful, Stereo, Line Level signal into a sensitive, delicate Mic-In usually results in signif...

Re: how to remove music and keep vocals?

Another silly joke is removing chocolate from a muffin. One of those packages claims to be able to choose the direction of the cancellation. Doesn't have to be in the middle; you could cancel only the singer at half-left. If you can do that kind of wave management, then yes, you could probably isola...

Re: silent mp3 export

<<<As for needing to export to MP3 twice for it to work, that is still a mystery.>>>

That is a head scratcher.

Load one of your shows that you know is going to fail the first time and Export As WAV. Do you get a silent WAV file?
