Re: discarding history

I don't know of any way to eliminate the UNDO buffers while Audacity is still alive and expecting them to be there and working. I usually use 700MB per hour of high quality show, so your experience is about right. You know what the problem is, so I don't think we can be any more help. There is a min...

Re: Input and output set at max, yet recording volume still

The latest generation of sound cards isn't very good at amplifying a microphone. If you dig in the setting for your sound card, do you have a clicky for [x] 20dB Sound Boost? If you don't, then what you have is probably as loud as it's going to get assuming it's not broken. Describe the system, reme...

<<<I'm running A/V stuff that has to get done this weekend for a friend. >>> I know how that works. You understand where I'm going, right? If an external boot works correctly, then the basic machine is in perfect working order and we can look somewhere else. Or more accurately, you can look somewher...

Pamela is the grand master at recording Skype calls for post production, but it's Windows only. http://www.pamela.biz/en/ It's extraordinarily difficult to get audio production software to coexist with Skype because Skype is vicious about taking over your computer. That's why it's so successful. No ...

I think that's about as good as you're going to do. You basically turned it into AM radio, but that's OK if the presentation is pleasant and the subject is engaging. The presenter has a nice voice. The bulk of the noise during the voice seems to be caused by the voice. When the voice stops, the bulk...

Re: Stuffy sound on high notes

Do you have your guitar or amplifier plugged into the Microphone Input of your laptop? The problem with inspecting artistic performances is there's no way to know what the original intention was. That clip sounds exactly like a conventional Jimmy Hendricks fuzz guitar. http://www.last.fm/music/Jimi+...

Re: exporting to iTunes

If you hold the control key while you click on a file, it will offer you "Open With?" and a list of applications appropriate to that file. If you have a multi-button mouse (I can't handle the one-button mouse) that's the equivalent of right-click.

Re: Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this recording

<<<I'm going to try recording directly onto the laptop with Audacity next time.>>> You can easily record directly to a Mac laptop. Most PC laptops do not have a Line-In but a Microphone input. The robust, powerful, Stereo line signal from the mixing desk will overload a connection expecting a tiny, ...

Re: Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this recording

You can help a little by brute force filtering them out. Everything after "Good Morning." http://www.kozco.com/tech//audacity/akSamp2LowPassFilter.mp3 That's a low pass filter 24dB, 5100Hz in Audacity 1.3.7. This works because most of the cracking is very high frequency, but I can't do muc...

Re: OS X 10.4.11 crash

Maybe a little extreme troubleshooting is in order. Can you install a clean OS on an External FireWire drive, boot to it, install Audacity and see what happens? That's how I test Snow Leopard on my Intel machine. I don't actually use Snow Leopard for anything else. That machine runs Tiger.
