Re: I don't seem to have a 'line-in' to record from
Wavestudio 7 is just another sound editing program. You need to find the Creative sound card manager, possibly under Start > Control Panels or something like that. Sony Philips Digital Interface (S/PDIF) is the digital audio input, not analog Line-In. You're still missing pieces. DId you load the dr...

I can tell you the tools, but you may not get very far. Analysis > Spectrum Analysis. It usually tells you too much. The more rich, lush, and complex the sound is, the worse this display gets. This is one (1) piano note from a grand piano. "G" as I recall. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pi...

Re: Loss of quakity exporting as MP3
From perfect uncompressed quality to just noticeable distortion in stereo it's 64KB and 32KB in mono. By the time you get to 320KB, most people can't tell what you did but there may still be some distortion. If the work was already an MP3 at one time, all these numbers go crazy and the music quality...

Sounds like Death Metal Growl to me. If that doesn't do it for you, can you point to a performance you like to emulate?

<<<Does the sound card or the CPU itself actually make that much noise?>>> It can. They warn you when you're installing a sound card to place it as far away from other electronics as possible -- particularly the video card. The inside of a computer is very electrically noisy and a completely hostile...

Re: Moved the computer far from the stereo!
<<<Will the sound be degraded by having lengthy cords running that distance? >>> Not in the way you think. When you separate parts of home systems like that, you're much more likely to get hum and buzz in your music. Home systems depend on everything being plugged into one wall plate. Separate them,...

Re: unwanted phaser effect
Did you suddenly get Skype? Sound levels that start adjusting themselves can be caused by a sound card that was designed to auto level set while making internet phone calls. Use Skype once and the setting stays clicked by accident. Since you also have a significant quality distortion, I'd guess you ...

Re: Mic Issues...Can't hear anything.
If you assume the microphone doesn't have cat hairs in it or the computer is 5,000 years old, it should work just like it is. Did you open up the Windows Control Panel and push the faders up? there may be more than one. I had one Windows machine I had to push up three faders to get the microphone to...

Re: Audacity in "The Blind Side"
I've had to do this. The Production Director tells you, "Fill up the computer screen with stuff. You have no budget." I used to work for a company that made fake computer screens and video systems. Ever watch Murphy Brown? All the screens, video and computer on that show were fake. Some of...
