Are you sure all your connectors are clean? Pull out the RCAs and put them back in a couple of times. Pull out the 1/8" stereo plug and rub it with a clean paper towel and a little vodka, rubbing alcohol or Windex. Dry it with another towel and firmly plug it back in...twice. Still a problem? D...

You can install both on your machine as long as you only open one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Audacity 1.2 was current when Win98 was new.

None of this is Audacity's problem. Audacity is a complete slave to the computer running it.

Many Lenovo ThinkPads have a very nice line-In (blue) in addition to the pink Mic-In. You should be able to find one of those to record your analog shows depending on what they are and where they started from.
