<<<I can see how a soundcard that's made for Skype can be the cause of it. >>> Soundcards are not made for Skype. Skype's claim to fame is it takes over the sound services of the computer that it's on, no matter what else is happening. It does not Play Well With Others. Doesn't the eeepc run linux? ...

Re: Can't play exported files in itunes
Piggyback postings make us crazy because it's impossible to track the responses. Anyway... <<<I'm on a Macbook Pro running 10.58, dual processor.>>> So that pretty much kills off Audacity 1.2 right there. Newer Macs do not support Audacity 1.2 http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac You can have 1...

Re: Playing Music while recording Vocals
Your next question is how do you hear yourself playing with the already recorded track. You don't without external hardware. Macs do not support Hardware Playthrough and Software Playthrough has a serious delay in it.

Re: Playing Music while recording Vocals
There's a setting in Audacity Preferences called "Play Music while recording New" or something like that. The exact words changed a bit with the version. Apple > About This Mac. Read Processor and Version. If you have an Intel machine and Leopard or Snow Leopard (10.5, 10.6) then you shoul...

Re: Reducing overall size of recording
<<<The size of some of these in .mp3 format exceeds 100mb.>>> That's not the number we need. How long is the show? One hour? Two? There's a magic place where MP3 runs out of moxie and the shows start sounding seriously bubbly and gargly -- like a bad cellphone or cheap answering machine. There are c...

Re: Get the most volume, and perceived volume, from audacity
<<<Also, how can I reduce clipping, but make everything sound louder>>> Clipping is deadly and usually permanent. If you notice crunchy sound, it's already beyond software help. Assuming a perfect, clear, low recording, you can go a lot of the distance with Chris' Compressor. Chris's Compressor http...

Re: Problames with the effects and analyze tabs.
<<<You can't apply an effect or analyse until you select something.>>>
One of the changes in Audacity 1.3 was Auto Select. If you select nothing and pick an effect, the new Audacity assumes you want to apply it to the whole show.

Re: I'm importing a song, but the AIFF file is HUGE!
Since you're doing everything correctly, you may not need the 32-bit floating setting in Audacity. That causes troubles sometimes. Set Audacity to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. That is the music CD sound standard and you can dump that directly into iTunes and on to a Music CD with no data conversion or dam...

Re: I'm importing a song, but the AIFF file is HUGE!
Excellent. You will find that the Line-In for your Mac (circle with two black arrows) is a terrific way to capture line level stereo performances, wherever they come from. Sometimes you can take the Tape-Out of your amplifier and apply it through a simple dual RCA to stereo 1/8" plug cable. App...
