Re: Science Project?
It's dBSPL. Sound Pressure Level. You may have generated more of a sound class than you think. Your ear responds to sound in a very odd manner in order to hear both very loud and very soft sounds -- all the better to keep from getting eaten. In the modern world, what your microphone picks up and wha...

Re: Get the most volume, and perceived volume, from audacity
As I reconstruct the question: How do I make my show louder without changing it at all? You reach over with your right hand and turn up the volume control on your amplifier or iPod. Anything that changes the density or overall loudness of a performance does it by making the low volume parts louder t...

Re: from MP3 player
<<<i know the MP3 tunes are in stereo!>>> True, but the connection on the side of your laptop isn't. Most PC laptops have a Mic-In (pink) and a headphone out and that's it. Mic-In is expecting a tiny, delicate, mono microphone signal. I'm surprised that you don't have sound quality problems. Sound f...

You're not using dates in the filenames, are you? That can cause this problem, too.

Re: Saving and Recording Errors
Which Windows?
You might try downloading and installing the latest 1.3.10.
http://audacityteam.org/download/
You can have both versions on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Re: Popping NOT due to clipping
Which Audacity are you using? Sometimes upgrading or downgrading from your selected version helps. 1.3.10 is out and new. How did you reinstall Audacity? If you deleted the program and put a new one in, you did it wrong. All that's needed is delete the Preferences file and Audacity will start from f...

Re: Stereo Mix not Showing up Under Recording Devices--Windo
If that didn't help -- there wasn't a setting under "Advanced Devices," Obsolete Services, or some such, Then there may not be one. Not all PCs support Mix-Out, and it's getting more and more popular not to. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Contro...

Re: Reducing overall size of recording
Back to the top. Did you mix down the performance to mono? In a spoken word performance that's an easy, very high quality way to save about half of the file sizes. If you started with an hour show, 83MB/AAC is much too large, but it's very good for a Stereo show. Are there lower quality settings in ...

Re: Reducing overall size of recording
I'd be inside Zilsoft looking for higher compression numbers before exporting the MP3. You do have two strikes against you right away. Windows Media (WMA) is already a modern H.264 compression type. I bet the shows sound reasonably good and the WMA file is reasonably small. I bet it's when you conve...

Re: Not only listen to the songs but also recording voice
I think the Zoom machines are the grand masters of small, affordable, high quality recording, but I don't think I would want to carry one around just to listen to an opera at the beach.
