I think there's something else a little odd.

Re: Increasing input volume levels with microphone?
It's a little rough to find.

Re: FFT Analysis
Usually, just dB. Not dBu. dB is relative. dBu is an actual voltage level. There are four fuzzy numbers you can remember to get a handle on the relationships. -- 0dB (digital) is the upper limit. You can't make (digital) sound louder than that. -- 6dB is half level or double level depending on which...

Re: Missing audio during playback
Is the missing audio sound clips or music from other files on your computer? Audacity, unless you changed it, uses sound from files all over the computer. It doesn't pull sound into itself for editing. If you moved, deleted, or renamed the sound files -- or move the project itself, then Audacity wil...

Re: Increasing input volume levels with microphone?
You could try changing the battery. Electret microphones like this one slowly fade into the sunset as the battery goes flat. If you're using the battery that came with the microphone, that battery could have been in the package for a very long time and lost its poop. Dig around in the Windows Contro...

Re: Help needed with distorted audio
You're doing everything OK, but your timing is off. When Audacity mixes down several tracks to stereo, it just adds them up. It's not unusual at all to get a ton of overloading and clipping when that happens. You didn't listen to the final too closely before it posted. As you're finding out, your ex...

Re: Background noise in youtube recording
You can get a lot of noise in a recording like this by recording the laptop microphone instead of YouTube directly. That gives you all the room noises and distortion in addition to the show. There are ways of recording directly. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Recording_audio_playing_on...
Re: vocals
A broken wire in many different places can cause this. You an also get a similar reaction if your speakers are wired wrong.

Re: Recording is too quiet
<<<Microphone inputs are massively more sensitive than line inputs>>> That's not exactly the only difference. Microphones designed to be plugged into a PC are frequently powered from the PC (bottom illustration)... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audioconnectors/audioconnectors.html Those microphones have...

Re: Jumpy Recording
Personally, I would defrag it again. Windows considers everything OK when most of the file structure is coherent enough to prevent system damage. You are after maximum speed. Your goals are different. You may also discover this will take a while. Do the error test while you're down there. <<<there i...
