Re: Can't record file on computer to audacity in stereo

One more. You can have damaged preference settings in Audacity 1.2 and get them jammed in the Windows Registry. Reinstall may not help.

You know you got a totally fresh Audacity install when it asks you for a language at First Birthday.

Re: Can't record file on computer to audacity in stereo

Some of the Windows Sound Control panel faders have pan controls (Left-Right) in addition to the volume settings. Recording from the internet goes through two sets of sound controls, so you have to set both. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Usin...

Re: Cannot play .wav on Real Player.

<<<I downloaded from YouTube which I think is MP3.>>> It's not. YouTube uses Flash and h.264 now. They haven't used MP3 in a while. Audacity, especially in the 1.2 version doesn't support that. http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html Pull down piano2.wav or either of the two MP3s and try that. You...

Re: Extracting accompaniment

<<<I'm aware that I can use Audacity to remove the vocals from a song. >>> That may not be reflected in reality. Most of the time that process fails because many conditions must be met at once and they never are. The sound file must be in perfect, uncompressed stereo (that kills most people right th...

Re: Start Recording when Alone

Nobody has the concept of "Post Production." Start the recorder, sing the song, stop the recorder and sell 2.5 million copies on iTunes. Can you hurry it up? My parking meter is going to run out. If you could do that, I'd be selling apples. I can't sell oranges. Everybody already has them ...

Re: Trouble with External Mic

Just a note, does any of this come back to life if you restart the machine from cold power off (pull the power cord for a bit after the machine halts)?

Re: Trouble with External Mic

Does your laptop have a built-in microphone? The only way your microphone would have worked is if you plugged it into the Mic-In, not the Line-In. If you do have both connections and you plugged into Mic-In the first time and Line-In the second, then yes, only one would have worked. In all cases, th...

Re: Calibrating the volume between two tracks

There is a common problem with all tools that depend on following the loudness or volume of a track. There is no such thing and you have to make one up. It's the "How tall is that wheat field" problem. Q. How do you want me to measure it? A. The best way. That dips you into attack and rele...

Re: Problem with burning audio-CD with Nero 7

It's possible the program doesn't like the Audacity 32-bit Floating setting. Some programs don't. Put your show on a timeline and convert it to 16-bit. To change the bit depth of a track: Click on the track name and select the required bit depth on the "Set Sample Format" sub-menu. To Chan...
