Re: Burning to CD

They're just different. Music CDs are limited by time. 78-1/2 minutes on each Music CD. It doesn't matter how large the original files were, your authoring program will convert them to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and then burn them onto a blank in a special format for space saving. It could be said that i...

Re: Error: reference to invalid character number at line 8

Most people think the AUP file is a sound file. It's not. It's computer programming in Sorta English. The problem is the AUP file got saddled with a character which it thinks isn't English.

Re: Input Level Too Low

<<<rather than record with peaks of -50dB>>> Peaks at -50 means your show or transfer is broken. Peaks at -10 are perfectly normal for a television show whose "zero tone" (in the US) is -20. Even at 16-bit sound, performing a 6dB boost will not create problems. Noise floor on a 16-bit syst...

Re: Burning to CD

<<<Should I convert them to MP3 >>> MP3 not only compresses the file size and makes the music generally available, it also adds damage. Sometimes significant damage http://www.kozco.com/tech/WAV-MP3.wav <<<I have a number of audacity native files>>> Probably not. You probably have a number of Audaci...

Re: Sampler

Sure. As long as you don't want to record the resulting composite. Windows machines don't make very good Digital Audio Workstations because of the delays. You don't notice them until you try to capture a multi-track performance and keep layering it. You can tune out "latency" in Audacity 1...

<<<I know about a good music editor>>>

Yes, but unlike Audacity, this one isn't free. You need to be careful not to bump up against the problem of posting commercials on the forum.

Re: input for recording

You set the input with the Windows Control Panels. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel ... but that will bring you to problem two. Cassette machines produce a powerful, high-level, stereo signal suitable for jacking into a s...

Re: Audacity is not opening music correctly

Where did you get the music from? Is this a live recording of you playing the guitar and singing? If you got it from a download, then you may have a music format that Audacity doesn't recognize. Convert to WAV outside of Audacity with Super or Switch (downloads). There is a remote possibility of you...

Re: Recording is too quiet

USB microphones are normally quiet because they have no choice. Low sound is easily fixed by several tools inside Audacity, but overload distortion from too loud a signal is permanent and fatal to the show. Since there's no mixer or human intervention during the recording step, low is good. Capture ...
