Re: best settings for the best voice recording?
I thought about that later. The Sennheisers are good, too. <<<My MKH 70 has been through 6 or 7 hurricanes and is still beautiful.>>> I believe it was the MKH-60 where you could change the nose for short or long throw capture. That's my friend in Florida who has to deal with salt water corrosion and...

Re: Weird short echo on voice when mixing down to stereo
<<<I mixed this down to mono and it was okay. In stereo, the voice has this very very short 'room' echo on it.>>> Say that again with different words. If you listen to your mono show with a stereo system, it sounds funny? Does it make any difference whether it's on-line or not? Koz

Re: Weird short echo on voice when mixing down to stereo
<<<Also I notice a stereo mix down to mp3 seems to increase the distortion markedly -- is there a way I can avoid this?>>> Gargly, bubbling MP3 distortion is a function of encoding bit rate. As the bit rate goes up, the quality and file sizes both go up. In Audacity 1.2 you have to set the MP3 encod...

Re: Speed of playback
Distilling a little bit: You are all on Windows machines. XP? You are all using Audacity 1.3.x. Your track specifications (on the left) are 44100, 32-bit float, Mono. Anything with show length? All these shows are over 30 minutes long, for example? You are all creating tracks that fail in exactly th...

Re: diefference between narrowband and wideband audio codec
These references are usually used in radio transmission or other process like that. Where did you hear it?

Re: Strange background noise
<<<After years of using Audacity without any major problems, suddenly my recordings from streamed files on the net have a strange background noise like people talking in a large hall>>> Normal voices in the recording sound echoy and hollow, or the performance sounds natural and has additional hollow...

Re: Can't Read MP3's
You can get wacky MP3s if you use the Audacity default of 32-bit floating instead of the more conventional 16-bit. Try converting the original work to 16-bit and then create a new MP3. Depth/Rate Conversion -- Change Project Rate (Hz) lower left > 48000 -- Track Name > Set Sample Format > 16-bit PCM...

Re: Live radio stream query - urgent advice needed
It's them. I launched the web site and the player took over my machine and then crashed. It sets flags where I couldn't get rid of it even after restart. It bothers me that I couldn't get my machine back by using the command line tools. That's hard to break on an OS-X machine. I marked the link as d...

Re: Live radio stream query - urgent advice needed
You generally only need to mess with ports if you're trying for a fully interactive experience or a videoconference service. Those demand symmetrical connections and don't get along very well with firewalls. You're definitely doing something wrong if you need to get down to that kind of granularity....
