Audacity default bit depth is 32-bit floating, not the much more common 16-bit. Change in Audacity preferences and then restart Audacity.

You can convert your existing show to 16-bit.

In Audacity 1.2 you change the MP3 exported bit rate in the Preferences. Restart Audacity after you change it.

32 is the minimum for a mono show.
64 is the minimum for a stereo show.
300 and up is very nearly (but not quite) perfect.

Audacity is a complete slave to the computer that's running it. If the computer can't see the recorder or the sound files, Audacity will never see them, either.
