Re: Audacity Library

You can make a PlayList inside iTunes, push your songs over to it and play it. PlayLists will let you rearrange the order of songs and do other tricks. It's getting into iTunes that's the problem. For that you need WAV, AIFF, MP3, or AAC files. Extend formats as needed with QuickTime Plugins. If all...

Re: Cursor: getting it to stop at location when pressing sto

<<<before you press Stop (spacebar), press the "open square bracket" key "[">>> I can't see a time where that would be useful. Since Audacity will not scrub, the best you can do on the fly is get within one or two spoken words of your real edit point. Can you perform [ at pause? ...

Re: Export Multiple Fails

-- Characters in Labels --

I bet you're wondering why they don't fix this character in label thing. They did -- in Audacity 1.3.11.

Re: Export Multiple Fails

Vista likes putting up walls between applications and services. Do you have permission to write to that location? Can you write to anywhere else, like the desktop?

Re: Export Multiple Fails

You can get that if you use messy names in the labels, or you decided to put a date in the exported filename. All these applications should only use safe characters: upper and lower case letters, numbers, underscore, and dash. That's it. No other characters. Using either slash mark or other punctuat...

Re: Missing Part of Song

Only when you save it as an MP3? Are you using a high enough bitrate? Are you getting other MP3 compression artifacts like gargling or bubbling? http://kozco.com/tech/WAV-MP3.wav MP3 works by suppressing parts of the performance that you "won't notice." If you compress hard enough, you mi...

Re: Recording levels! Grrrr!!

You can't use Mic-In on your laptop for this. It's expecting a really tiny, weak, mono signal from a microphone.

You can use one of the fine USB External Sound Cards we reviewed.

Re: Does Anyone Still Listen to Vinyl Records?

They have you viewing under tungsten light. That will produce a very, very faint strobe bar. Much better under fluorescent.

Re: Cursor: getting it to stop at location when pressing sto

Don't press Stop. Press P (the pause key) and then place a Label at that point (Command-B). The Label will become sticky or magnetic and let you select large quantities of sound while zoomed out. Since Audacity does not have Edit Markers, it's sometimes faster if you want to delete large blocks of s...

Re: Fast recording or slow playback?

Some CD players use the data stream from the disk, not the analog cable between the disk drive and the sound card. If yours does that, it's the difference between a pure digital transfer and an analog one. Nobody will fall over in amazement that the sound card A to D converter is having troubles. Tr...
