Re: WMA audio
I'm digging in my Windows Media for Dummies book. We need to remember that Widows Media is a proprietary format and I somehow doubt that anybody is paying Microsoft licensing fees. So the codec is a fudge job. If you were going to create a convenient subset of WMA, then 44100 is a good compromise. I...

Re: USB Microphone Samson G-Track Problem with noise
<<<XLR to USB cable.>>> Yes, that solves some of the microphone problems, but sound volume and hiss aren't in that list. When they took away the mixer volume control, they had to make the now non-movable microphone channel quieter. Slightly low volume is easily made up in Audacity with common tools....

Re: Data file disappeared
The data file was never there. Audacity creates a folder or directory called something_data. "something" is the name of your show. And yes, you can certainly put everything back exactly the way it was and the show should open just fine. If you just can't remember what the original name was...

Re: Distorted audio
Vocal removal doesn't work. You can start the process there. There is a frightening list of reasons for it to fail. If you have a highly compressed show, you're dead. If you have a mono show, none of the tools do anything. Vocal removal only works on a perfect, and I mean perfect, uncompressed, clea...

Re: Mixing/Producing
<<<many professionals use it>>> Like me. I use Audacity in its simple recording mode and I've recorded many voice tracks for commercial products as well as other sound tracks for in-house productions. Quiet room, simple microphone and mixer and a Mac with Audacity will take you a long way in capturi...

Re: headphones are connected but still comes out of speakers
You may have fried the headphone connection, or maybe you didn't get the plug in far enough. Unplug it and try it again several times firmly. Some computers switch between speakers and headphones in software, but a lot of them use mechanical contacts in the socket to do the work. When those break, t...

Re: sound disappears
Audacity will not Save a sound file but it will save a Project. Projects are instructions about where to find sound files on your computer. If you save a project and then move or change the sound files you used in your show, Audacity will not be able to find them and there will be holes in your show...

Re: Distorted audio
If you insist on getting your existing tools to work, reduce the level of the show by 6dB with the Amplify Tool before you work on it.

Re: Distorted audio
You may be working too hard. Audacity 1.3 has a pre-packaged Vocal Remover that does all the work and doesn't, as far as I know, have sound level or distortion problems.

Re: Only see MIC as recording source
I've never done this backwards. Does the Audacity Mixer Toolbar take over the Apple Preferences? Last time I did this, I set Apple Preferences and then told Audacity Default Device.
