Re: recording wav
In Windows you would be using a Music CD ripper program like CDEX to convert from CDA on the Music CD to WAV. If you do it any other way, you may either get a damaged file, a non-sound file, or a perfectly working sound file in a format Audacity doesn't recognize.

Re: Track Separation
Nobody noted this, but Music CDs do not carry song titles. It doesn't matter how careful you were with the typing and exporting, all that information gets stripped off when you make a Music CD. I think WAV files do not normally carry the song titles anyway. You need AIFF for that, but not in Windows...

Re: Which version for OS X 10.3.9
1.2.6 should work OK for you, given that it's really old and has awkward and unpolished tools. When you cross the Leopard/Intel barrier is when you need to seriously worry about versions. I would personally pull down 1.3.11 and use that. That version has polished, comprehensive tools and you can ins...

Re: Automatic record/save every hour?
This is a surveillance job, not production audio.
Like when they say on CSI "Let's look at the hotel tapes to find the bad guy." That's what they're doing -- only the audio version. We had a very old tape-based system that would do this. 24-hours at a clip, picture and sound.

Re: Stereo Mic Input Versus Line Input
Condenser microphones all work roughly the same way. Two thin metal plates whose separation changes with the pressure of your voice. They all need battery of some sort because the raw sound signal these plates make will not go down a cable. The internal condenser amplifier doesn't necessarily make t...

Re: Stereo Mic Input Versus Line Input
Officially the three contacts are Tip Ring Sleeve. I've seen them called TRS connectors, but that's not at all common. This really is how they're wired... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audioconnectors/audioconnectors.html You can have special purpose connectors with multiple rings, but those are not at ...

Re: can't find the mp3 I exported
Unless you changed it, Windows is likely to hide the .mp3 part of the filename and further, may tell you that it's a Windows Media file. It makes Windows so darn much fun to get lost in.

Re: Temp file recovery
Wait.....what? Let's take this again. While Audacity is working, it saves strangely formatted work in the temporary directory. When you get to where you want to save some permanent version of the work, either Save A Project and Audacity will create the famous AUP file and _data folder, or Export and...
