Re: Stereo Mic Input Versus Line Input
Grown-up microphones, the ones with the 3-pin XLR connector, do not use ground for the performance signal. There is a ground or shield connection there to keep interference and electrical buzz out of the show, but it's not part of the show signal. Copper land line telephones work this way and they d...

Re: I Need USB Microphone Help!
Half-way there. 1-channel (mono), 16-bit, 44100. My USB microphone will only work with those settings.

Re: please help i'm a newbee
<<<normalising makes it louder - amplifies everything the same amount>>> Amplify automatic does that. Normalize amplifies left and right separately which can lead to channel imbalance. This is a common argument on the forum. I'm in the camp that Normalize should do both with a selector whether or no...

Re: Need help with the equalizer
If you never met dB before, it can be a little magic. Even though the Audacity timeline works in percent (1 = 100%), that's not how your ear works. Half sound level happens at -6dB, but that doesn't sound like half loudness to your ears. That doesn't happen until about -18dB. The quiet limit for hum...

Re: Which version for OS X 10.3.9
While Tiger works perfectly on a Motorola machine (G4, G5), I don't know that I would put Leopard on one. Leopard was optimized for Intel Processors. I don't think Snow Leopard will run on Motorola machines at all. You can't always get a free machine with a $100 operating system upgrade. But Tiger (...

AIFF files will carry some extra information, so you may be right there. You'll need to try one out and see what goes.

No, he didn't say that. I don't believe Audacity Projects will open up anywhere else. The WAV file will carry all the musical notes and the filename. That's pretty much it.

Re: Which version for OS X 10.3.9
<<<OS-X 10.3.9>>> That's Panther, isn't it? Ummmm. That's harder. Tiger (10.4.x) was the first place all the newer tools worked. All you can do is go as far as you can. We still have one Panther machine at work. They introduced a special QuickTime tool and then took it away in later versions. The pr...

Re: wav file downloaded to audacity
You can get a lot fewer blank looks if you set Windows to show you filename extensions. Windows hides those under the assumption that they are only going to confuse you. 'Music" as a Windows Media File may turn out to actually be Music.m4a which is an iTunes compressed file. Right Click My Comp...

<<<converted from a CD from ITunes software. >>>
iTunes Preferences must be set to WAV Import to get a WAV file from a Music CD. If you leave the iTunes defaults as they are, you may get an AAC compressed music file which will go past Audacity so fast it will leave burn marks.
