Re: Truncate Silence crashes Audacity 1.3.10 on Mac

One more. If you've been working on your machine and putting it to sleep overnight for several days, stop dead and count the number of programs you have running. Open the taskbar along the bottom and count the application markers. We have a supervisor at work that doesn't close applications. Ever. I...

Re: Truncate Silence crashes Audacity 1.3.10 on Mac

I don't think you ever said where these sound files came from. Before Audacity or any other activities, open one of them up in QuickTime Player and Command-I INFO. What sort of file does QuickTime think it is? Audacity has a nasty quirk of appearing to open up damaged or foreign files only to fail o...

Re: Samson Q1U Microphone

Samson makes a number of nice microphones. What was your last one? Did this one come with a software package? Is there an updated driver on the Samson web site? USB microphones have to record low volume because overload and clipping is obvious, fatal, and permanent. Low volume is easily fixible in A...

Re: EQ applied to record audio?

Reading that slightly differently, it's possible to apply a custom curve to your already captured show later that day in post production. Audacity will not apply effects during a capture.

Re: Audacity Clipping my Vocals

Is there a sound cable between the Tascam mixer and the computer? No fancy digital cables? You have the backwards problem most people have. Most deskside computers have a sound card with both Mono Mic-In (pink?) and Stereo Line-In (blue?). The Line-In records high-volume stereo shows from a mixer an...

Re: Is there any way to distinguish voices in Audacity?

<<<Is there any way Audacity can tell peoples' voices apart?>>> Let me predict the past. You went with the less expensive version of Pamela -- or no Pamela at all -- to record your Skype telephone conversation and now you need to split up the voices because the far end voice was very different from ...

Re: How to import a .pcm file from a dvd (OS X)?

PCM from a DVD should be 48000, 16-bit, Stereo. That's non-surround television sound.

Re: How to import a .pcm file from a dvd (OS X)?

What happens if you open it up in QuickTime Player and press Command-I for INFO?

If you had QuickTime Pro, you could export it straight from there.

Re: Making a live acoustic sound professional

Someone terminally cynical could argue they performed it this way on purpose -- so it's not fixable. You have to go buy The Real Thing.

Re: Windows 7 - Big Drop in Sound Quality

<<<PS As an side, the forum has a problem with Windows 8>>>

That would be a problem with your display or display driver. It's not a shock that drivers do not catch up with a new operating system for a while. Keep haunting the manufacturer's web site for updated video drivers.
