Re: Skype/Audacity Problems

<<<Anyone have any suggestions on how to record Skype using Audacity with headphones?>>> Nobody can do that. Skype takes over the computer sound and the best you can ever do is record one side. You can add other software. Pamela Professional or Pamela Business will record the conversations each to i...

Re: Equalizer curve advice

Since this is the first I've heard of someone doing this, I assume most people don't worry about it. You may need to whack off the low frequencies (move the curve I designed up to around 1KHz or so), but past that, the sample curve you posted is more or less flat. I know it doesn't look flat, but re...

Re: Recording Levels

Shucks. You were supposed to tell me you all press a magic control-shift key combination and suddenly everything starts working. It's awkward and a lot of work for somebody who has to edit the final product, but you should be able to produce a perfect show that way. Everybody has the same time refer...

Re: Equalizer curve advice

Db works both directions. Your example is dB up from very quiet instead of dB down from maximum volume. Your scan appears to be from a live microphone which has no natural upper limit to the point of microphone destruction. Audacity always works from "0" which is the loudest a digital soun...

Re: Equalizer curve advice

You need to do this because you need to listen to it and make sure you got it right. It's not that hard. In Audacity 1.3, you can make the curve and then save it for later. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/100Hz_Rumble.jpg This is a low-cut "rumble" filter I designed based on a commercial ha...

Re: Tracks become distorted after recording

Do the blue waves in each track timeline get bigger? Can you tell if they change at all? Sudden Computer Insanity can be caused by your hard drive filling up or becoming unavailable. This is the pathway for the drive size, fullness, error checking, and defragmenting. Audacity will not run into a ful...

Re: Equipment advice for recording!!! HELP!

I have effectively no top end for a microphone purchase, but I don't know what I would buy if I had to. I'm using the Shure SM58 because I didn't have to buy it. I've got other unexciting microphones that were bought for other projects and then just stayed around -- so I don't have an intentional mi...

Re: Equipment advice for recording!!! HELP!

<<<One-Point Stereo Microphone>>>

It claims to have a stereo mini-plug on the end of the cable. Is there a line amplifier inside the mic? If not, that won't plug into anything. It will be mono in a Mic-In connection and impossibly low level in a Line-In connection.

Re: Odd problem with recording--different on different compu

Conspiracy theories aside, it's really easy to record too many things. If you have your live microphone turned on in addition to the capture pathways, you could get a seriously compromised show.

This is insanely easy to do if you run Skype or other communication software.

Re: Odd problem with recording--different on different compu

The process of recording Mix-Out or What-U-Hear is completely up to the operating system, the sound card (the hardware), and the software drivers. The point at which the music "turns around" in the playback side and re-enters the recording side could be engineered to be after the conversio...
