Re: Audacity quit but playthrough still in effect.
Before you go completely crazy, does the computer act normally if you don't run Audacity? Can you play music CDs, Movie DVDs? Youtube? Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input and Output. What are those two settings and how many devices are listed? Leave Audacity closed for a while. <<<...

Re: importers can't understand this format
Right click on the file > Properties > Extra or Advanced. What does Windows think of the file? Does it play in WIndows Media or free QuickTime Player?

Re: help! the audio is gone
<<<It seems that we are back on this subject again>>> When did we leave? I did think of one way to eliminate this problem. Charge $700 USD for the program. Apparently ProTools does this all the time and everybody's used to it. The problem with free software is Mrs. McConnolly and her young son Sean ...

Re: auacity doesn't register my audio
The assumption running through your whole post is that you have a Line-In. If you're on a Windows laptop, there's a huge chance you don't. Most laptops have a Mic-In which is mono and is expecting a tiny, delicate, wispy microphone signal, not the massive, powerful stereo sound signal coming out of ...
Re: BPM issue
It's not unusual for software to get the BPM wrong. The ones that count bass notes die a flaming death if the song double-times in the middle of a phrase, has a back-beat that comes and goes, or, in the case of Trance/Dance, stops dead for six or eight seconds. The only sure way is headphones and a ...

Re: Lost Everything But Project Folders - gutted !
Oh, right. The missing files. Do a manual virus scan on your computer. The serious one where you lose the machine for two hours. Not the wimpy one that runs in the background. Microsoft makes one OK virus scanner that they run from microsoft.com. That can act as a backup for your local scanner. http...

Re: Lost Everything But Project Folders - gutted !
And I can tell from your post that you're an experienced television editor with ten years under your belt. You have a very large, fast computer with four internal drives, two USB connected drives and two FireWire drives for editing video. OK, so maybe not. Right-brain projection is a dangerous thing...

Re: exporting files with Windows 7
While we straighten this out, can you Save the Project? That will give you some record of the show even if Export fails.

Re: Lost Everything But Project Folders - gutted !
You have several red flags sprinkled around your post. <<<I have searched all physical drives>>> All of them? How many might that be? <<<There is/was 20-30Gb of space on the HDD which houses the project and temp files >>> How much room is there left on the drive housing Audacity, and when was the la...

Re: 1.3 Beta installation
That was incorrect. Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 will safely install on the same machine. You may not use both at the same time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.
