Audacity is a post production tool. Capture the work, music, or singing in the computer and and mix and work on it sometime next week for example. Audacity only does two things in real time, capture and playback. No effects.

Re: CAN I REMOVE NOISY BACKGROND CHATTER
In case you're not horrified yet, the envelope tool is a wondrous thing and perfectly appropriate in this case, but it requires you to go through the show sentence by sentence and change the volume.

Re: Save Project As... dialog box
While the picture is in Paint, does it let you save as JPEG or Export as JPEG? If it does, pick medium or poor quality.

Re: Tape to computer: only get live sounds
Does the tape player have a microphone? You may have succeeded. It's good to know actually where your microphone is. Do you know? Scratch around the computer with your fingernail and note where the sound gets really loud. My microphone is located behind a tiny grill just to the left of the left-hand...

Re: imput volume
And although you didn't say so, a USB turntable? There is no volume control unless the software that came with the package provides it. Re: Default .VOX sample rate
Audacity project sample rate will always default or change to the sample rate of the first clip. If the rate switches to 8000 when you load the first clip, then the clip was recorded at 8000.

Re: CAN I REMOVE NOISY BACKGROND CHATTER
The people in the background are not noise. They're performers. In general, you can't separate different performers in a show. Noise is one constant sound through a whole performance like air conditioner rumble or microphone hiss. There is another requirement that at some time, the noise has to be a...

Re: Issues Recording Mic via Pre-Amp
So you're the one! <g> Excellent. You have an electronic celebrity and yes, if someone with a gun said I had to design a board that did that, I would totally be using mechanical relays which is the tiny ticking sound you hear. The down side of doing a special sound board is the requirement of specia...
