Re: HELP: Sound variations between two computers
My money is on a computer setup, not an MP3 export problem. I think you're recording more than one pathway and the delay between them is causing the "Big Room" echo effect. I don't think this is your problem, but we had one poster that complained bitterly about the wrong thing. We fixed th...

Re: HELP: Sound variations between two computers
Where are you? We may need to start the "which time zone are you in?" thing. I'm in Los Angeles. Many posters are in Great Britain. I think Bill is in the US. We do get occasional complaints of time gaps. Over and above the forum has the one of the fastest responses of any forum I know of,...

Re: Problem converting to MP3
<<<On exporting a .aup file, recorded at a sample rate of 128k Hz>>> Audacity will not Export an AUP file, you have to Save one of those. It will Export a WAV file if you want and that's what's indicated here. 48000 is the sample rate of television sound and 44100 is the sample rate of Music CDs. 12...

Re: HELP: Sound variations between two computers
Do you wear headphones while you're recording your stories? How is your microphone connected to your computer and who made the microphone? You don't have to get crazy, you can describe the connection. Is it a flat metal thing about a half-inch wide (USB), or does it look like one of these... http://...

Re: bad quality when recording
Tight, dense, and crunchy? That could be overload distortion. Do the blue lines on the Audacity time line hit "1" in either direction? This is my machine producing a very good live recording... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg Do your bouncing light sound meter and blue ...

Re: Weird sound while recording
Do you also like to record internet music and shows? You need to turn those settings off if you want to record a live microphone. Deselect Mix-Out or What-U-Hear. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audioconnectors/audioconnectors.html You should also be wearing Heaphones and not listening to speakers. Do you...

Re: Phone answering machine messages to PC
Let's assume a Magnetic Pickup since that's how most of these machines work. The earpiece in a telephone handset is highly magnetic and it throws off serious sound magnetic fields while it's working. However, magnetic pickups like this also love to pick up Everything Else. Do you have fluorescent la...

Re: Phone answering machine messages to PC
What kind of answering machine do you have and how do you have it connected to your computer? Is the computer a laptop? Can you record a short piece on laptop batteries only, no wall power, and see if the hum goes away?

Re: Need Help
There is a wahwah effect in Audacity 1.3.7. Effect > Wahwah... I guess all the rest of the versions from there up have it, too. I've never used it, so you'll be the first. Select some audio and then apply the effect. You'll probably get a control panel so you can control how much and how deep the ef...
