Re: Sound Engineering Help
In one sentence, sing it in a church or large hall, or outside. Do not sing in a tiny room in your house with echos from bare walls. No matter how professional a YouTube video looks, the effect goes right in the toilet when somebody opens their mouth and it turns out they're recording in the bathroo...

Check back in. You are about to experience the up side of help coming from all 'round the earth. <<<I believe the issue is discoverable and I'm going to work on it.>>> We think so, too. "Studio Quality" is a fuzzy phrase like Broadcast Quality. If you have the only pictures of the Hindenbu...

Re: Phone answering machine messages to PC
Unless your answering machine has a Headphone Out, the only other option is snug your laptop up to the answering machine and record the PC built-in microphone in a quiet room -- or use an external microphone, but those come with complications. Those of us handy with soldering irons and the Radio Sha...

Re: Tape to computer: only get live sounds
That's handled in the Windows Control Panels. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel You need to turn on the Line-In connection and turn off the microphone and everything else. Do you have a laptop PC? Then there's a huge chanc...

Re: Phone answering machine messages to PC
Yes, local power, but I don't think any of us seriously thinks that's causing most of your troubles. I think you have a defective product or a product with a defective shield. Even in an electrically benign environment, you can cause all kinds of noise by having a broken shield or other bad connecti...

Re: display bug / interface bug
<<<bug part 2 ->>> Developers get testy when people call something a bug because bugs are a very specific thing. They are an unintentional effect (usually bad) experienced by many people who can produce the problem at any time. Export Multiple in Audacity 1.3.10 was a bug. It killed everybody all ov...

Re: display bug / interface bug
Horizontal magnifying to see a phrase or individual sound is a lot easier. Drag-select some waves and Control-E to zoom into them. Control-3 to zoom back out slightly and control F to zoom out full. I live on those three shortcuts. If you add silence to a piece, Audacity will zoom out full after it'...

<<<Left click on vertical scale to zoom in vertically. Right click on vertical scale to zoom out vertically.>>> Shift-Click to zoom back out if you're on a one-button machine. The percent range (0-1 or 0% to 100% is pretty convenient for editing because most people like to edit in the top of their l...
