Re: recording stereo sounds diff than left and right

The two signals will always add up, etc. etc. If you record in stereo, you are at the mercy of the stereo services delivering the show to the computer. If they're w...

<<<What good would a mixing board do?>>> It's not a mixing board. It's a USB-based analog to digital converter that creates a digital bitstream independent of whatever crazy things your computer is doing. You never specifically answered the question of where your external sound equipment is plugged ...

<<<recording of a teleseminar.>>>
Need to know a lot more about that. Is this special software that allows you to participate in the seminar, or it a simple web page that you sit with a cup of tea and watch? Describe the steps you need to perform to see the seminar.

Re: Bit rate
The bit rate of an exported MP3 file is set during the Export step, not in preferences like it used to be in Audacity 1.2.

Re: Poor Quality Interview Tape Recording
There's room here for a joke about the tool "cleaning up" a Jimmy Hendricks fuzz guitar -- and taking all the fuzz out. The clip fix tools can do amazing things with a performance that overloads very briefly once every ten minutes or so. It can be the difference between having a clean show...

Re: Can't export...
When you complete one "capture," like the first hour of a multi-hour session or the ten minute talk or musical performance, Export As WAV. When you get home (or sooner), copy all the WAV sound files to a safety drive or backup system against accidental machine damage. historyLecture1_20100...

<<<Or, you can click and higlight the section you want then file, then export selection as WAV or MP3.>>> And the only problem with that is the complete inability of Audacity to set accurate edit points. If you delete everything else you don't need (editing upside down), you can use the magnifier to...
