It's possible you have MP3 compression damage. All MP3 causes some sound damage and if you edit an MP3 in Audacity, the damage always gets worse.
Is this the kind of sound you have?

<<<just make it less harsh>>> Also right. Which is why it can "hide" peak distortions, cracking, or crunching every ten minutes or so, but is increasingly helpless in the face of more and more distortion and damage. We still people they can't recover from overload distortion because by the...

Re: Noise gate effect problem
That usually means the software left trash behind in the Dreaded Windows Registry. The Registry is pointing to software and drivers that no longer exist. Most software developers go to a lot of trouble to get the installers to work right. If they still have a little time left, they work on the unins...

Re: Sample bit rate
Audacity has an annoying habit of changing the project specifications depending on the specifications of the first imported music file. Depth/Rate Conversion -- Change Project Rate (Hz) lower left > 48000 -- Track Name > Set Sample Format > 16-bit PCM -- File > Export > Format > Other uncompressed F...

I still have record...

Re: Poor Quality Interview Tape Recording
Right. But if you have enough clipping, you don't have music any more, you have "Suite for Cubic Spline Interpolation and Variations." You can ride over distortions here and there with that -- it takes the crunchy out of the overload, but more than occasionally, you're listening to the too...
