Re: weird playback

The first time someone tries to manage audio (or video) they find out all the warts and blemishes of their machine. Live audio doesn't wait -- either record or play back. When you press the B-Flat key on your Yamaha keyboard, Audacity must be able to immediately find perfect, high quality, fast spac...

Re: Left speaker not working

Oh. So yes, the sound card is fried. Nobody will be shocked that the tiny delicate sockets back there are damaged and yes, you might be able to take the card under strong light and see what's wrong. My sound cards have a block of plastic with the connections inside, but you may luck out and be able ...

Re: Still dont get mic set up...

Just as an illustration, this is my mixer. Note a little pushbutton just to the left of the Master Level fader that says +48v Phantom. http://www.guitarcenter.com/item/expandedimage.aspx?t=4&img=Peavey/232555.jpg That turns on the phantom power to all four microphones. Not all microphones need o...

Re: Copy and pasting clips

If you paste at the end of the original project, do you get what you were expecting? Are the two projects exactly the same technical specifications? Sample rate in the lower left and bit rate by clicking on the track name? Audacity is a terrible converter. Everything has to line up -- the rates and ...

Re: Compressing WAV files?

Music CDs have a limit to the data they can hold -- about 700MB and firm restrictions as to the quality of the music. That's the 44100, 16-bit, Stereo thing. That's it. Music CDs do not support compression or music manipulation or management. It's so tight they don't support song labels, either. Bec...

Re: How to Increase Volume?

Chris's Compressor
http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/

His claim to fame is the ability to increase the loudness and density of the show without seeming to do anything else to it. No small trick.

Re: Left speaker not working

<<<I guess I'm going in one of these days and at least looking at it.>>> And just so we're crystal clear, you can plug your earbuds into this exact same connection on the sound card and get both channels, right? Can you do it with a second set of earbuds or headphones? Use the left-right test so you...

Re: Still dont get mic set up...

As a fuzzy rule, external USB equipment is better only because it's further away from the computer. Computers generate a lot of electrical noise. Try operating a portable radio next to your computer. We reviewed several USB devices... http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 I hav...

Re: weird playback

Unless it's a FireWire drive, you may run into timing problems trying to split the show and Audacity. Use the external drive to park some of the stuff from your system drive so that one has more room. Fragmentation will kill Audacity because of the way it works. It always uses external sound files u...
