If you changed settings, did you restart your machine?
I have a license for Total Recorder and that gets along with Vista, and probably Win7 by now.
You can try to work at this upside down. Can you make a clean recording from your built-in microphone?

I don't think you do in Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.3 has Append Recording and allows you to extend your single timeline with additional show material. You can safely have both versions on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2. Audacity 1.3.11 is...
