Re: 4 Channel Analog Tape into Audacity
Hidden File Extensions -- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide Extensions for Known File Types (deselect) -- Apply (to this folder) or Apply to All Folders -- OK That should turn all your 'piano' files into piano.wav files so you have a better idea what you're dealing with....

Re: Background noise only when exporting
<<<it suddenly develops a background noise that is quite audible during softer parts of the music.>>> Can you describe the noise? Bubbling, Hiss, Hum, Buzz? We've had people complain about "noise" that turned out to be people talking in the background, or street sounds. Is it constant thro...

Re: Frequency correlation to SPL reading
You can get much more accurate displays and peaks by increasing the sample frequencies. Note the numbers on the bottom of this... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/piano_G1.jpg Also, the displays get much better as you make the window larger. -70dB should be well beyond the limit of human hearing. Koz

Re: Frequency correlation to SPL reading
That tailing off thing is suspicious. Nature doesn't do that. There's something in the sound pathway that's producing an artificial droop. The Rhode isn't really flat and you have to factor in the lumps and bumps of its response. Picture 1.png Stand in front of the running system with a sheet of new...

Re: MP3 sounding different
Does it sound OK if you Export a WAV file? MP3 is a destructive compressor and it has settings that affect file size and sound damage. If you like to record sound from the internet, you may have Mix-Out selected in your Windows Sound Panels. That can cause echos because you're listening to two diffe...

Re: Crummy sounding MP3 Exports
In Audacity 1.2, you must choose the MP3 export bitrate in Audacity Preferences. 32 is the minimum for mono, 64 is the minimum for stereo, and nobody can hear any damage over 300, but the file sizes go up as you increase the number. I think the default is 128 and that seems to work for most people. ...

Re: 4 Channel Analog Tape into Audacity
Not to worry. We like people clearly making progress and who, on occasion, read the documentation. There are three links at the top of each thread page: Tips, Tutorials, and Documentation. They can be overwhelming, but there's a lot of good stuff up there. Do you have Windows set to show you filenam...

USB Microphone Setup
There was a question posted about a Rhode Podcaster USB microphone. It claims to be able to produce sound at many different formats, and yet doesn't come with a software package. It also claims to be fully compatible with Windows and Mac, but let's stick with the Windows version for now. How do you ...
