Re: piano sounds great going in, lousy in Audacity

<<<There's a few things that I do notice>>>

And all that could be subtle feedback problems from having Mix-Out on by accident. Or leaving the microphone and speakers running together. The computer, I think by now it's clear, is Doing Something Wrong.

Re: piano sounds great going in, lousy in Audacity

To recap, it sounds perfect, punchy and clear when you're listening to the headphones, but anything downstream sounds flat and lifeless. Is it in stereo at the mixer and mono in Audacity -- I mean there may be two channels, but they're identical? You can get into serious trouble if you plug a mono p...

Re: SSM2019 monolithic pre-amp chip

Vacuum tubes have that graceful, non-linear characteristic and internationally famous overload sound. Semiconductors have crossover distortion, trans...

Re: Fine grained selection control when editing

Each version of Audacity gets closer and closer to Edit Markers instead of Labels. Find your IN point. Press I. Find your OUT point and press O. Delete everything between the two points. Paste new clip.

Re: Fine grained selection control when editing

<<<For fine-grain selection of a large section you may find it easier to locate and mark the beginning and end points with labels >>> I don't do that. I select an area slightly larger than the edit work and magnify Control-E. Then I select and delete most, but not all of the offending clip. Select a...

Re: How do you loop a track?

It's best if all these tracks arrives already in WAV format. MP3s make sucky production masters because you always end up recompressing them and they get bubbly. You can use the Solo and Mute buttons to the left of each track to turn the tracks on and off, and the Envelope tool to affect the volume ...

Re: How do you loop a track?

Put the music on the timeline. Edit > Select > All. Copy. End > Paste > End > Paste. etc. Repeat to 45:00. Control-F to see the whole show. Tracks > Add New > Stereo. Paste or Import the vocal into the new track and use the timeshift tool (left and right black arrows) to push it sooner and later. Lo...

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed

My cup runneth over. We woke up Chris and it turns out he has a noise suppression component for his tools as well.

I'm going to need to lie down for a while.
