And yes, it occurred to me that if I bought all the parts new, I'd be right in the ballpark of a commercial shock mount. That will be our secret.

<<<all that it takes to fool your ears>>>
You're preaching to the choir. Fooling people has bought me a lot of beer and biscuits.

Re: Audacity crashes when trying to open
<<<Is that fixed in 1.3?>>> It's not a problem of fixed or broken. Remote Operation is a feature. Audacity is a very simple program and it likes running on really simple computers -- generally one computer. You can install 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine safely as long as you only use one at a time. Tha...

Re: Recording from XITEL INPORT device
It may not need it. Did you try to find it in Windows Control Panels? If it's simple enough, the major operating systems have all that stuff built-in.

<<<Oops>>>
I'm not complaining and I don't think any of the other elves are, either. It's not often we get to take somebody from noisy, kitchen-table recording up to commercial grade captures. It helps that you're a terrific player.

Re: Recording from XITEL INPORT device
The device has to be visible in the Windows Control Panels before Audacity can deal with it. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel It would be good to know exactly which Audacity you have. Help > About Audacity (I think). Koz

Re: Error in Recovering Project
Did the recovery process try to create an AUP file for you? Did it succeed? There is a crash recovery process divorced from that rescue process. Crash Recovery http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=CrashRecovery The AUP file is the Project Manager. It's job is to keep track of all the pieces ...

<<<sorry koz not yet a 3 min length full piece>>> But there is no longer any technical reason not to. The last couple of clips have been Entertainment Corporation, Commercial CD ready. Have you tried to Actually Edit yet? You know, crank your way through a long piece, fluffs and all, and then go bac...

Re: Can Audaacity Convert .mov to .mp3?
<<<You can extract the audio directly to MP3 from there.>>> If you really want MP3. If you're going to edit or do production with the sound, you're far better with creating a WAV because that's what Audacity is going to do anyway. You should keep the number of conversions to a minimum. Koz
