There is one more component to this skillset. Knowing when to quit.

<<<i just downloaded a program to turn the wma files into mp3's, now they work.>>> A quality note. Audio compressors almost without exception cause damage. That's how they work. They throw away pieces you're not likely to miss (done properly). The problem is when you serially compress. Somebody sang...

Re: piano sounds great going in, lousy in Audacity

Latency correction is only possible in the 1.3 versions of Audacity. I see questions about "The Beta Version" like you may not have it yet. 1.3.11 is the current version of Audacity, no matter that the labels say. Many machines won't run Audacity 1.2 properly -- some not at all. Try this. ...

Re: Trial & error OK?

<<<And my eventual goal is to be able to take edited .au segments from storage and mix them up in Audacity according what is wanted>>> That's a shaky start. Audacity doesn't save sound files. It saves Projects. Projects are a work-in-progress managed by the AUP file with segments in the _data folder...

Re: Trial & error OK?

We would kill to have more people do that. We always get the people who downloaded Audacity and walked straight into a four-hour recording. That's very important. And broken. Do you have any way of getting sound into your computer? Built-in microphone? External microphone? You can use piano2.wav and...

Re: piano sounds great going in, lousy in Audacity

There are three delay problems in audio production. Latency is adjusted using the tools provided in Audacity 1.3.11. Live Headphone Delay (not playback delay) and Duration of Show issues are burned into the computer and sound card and are not adjustable. So if you sung the words in perfect sync and ...
