Re: Stereo separation / stereo tracks with balanced audio
The workaround:
Tracks > Stereo Track To Mono.
Tracks > Add Mono Track
Copy and paste the show from track one to track two. Make sure you home the cursor in track two.
Using the track menus under the black arrow left > Make Stereo Track.

Re: Rise Time
<<<rise time is not slew rate>>> No, it's not, but we're talking about the tone rise time, not the waveform rise time. <<<digital can slew "infinitely" fast>>> Tones can also rise infinitely fast. I just tried it and Generate can start a tone at maximum amplitude from zero. This will creat...

Re: buzzing noise in the background
OK. I got the big guy with the white hair. Dr. Pinder, is it? 'Throw your net out again after many failures.' They have some pretty serious hum and buzz on their sound system on the internet show. I'm not on a Windows machine, but I did a capture using my WireTap license and both Dr P and the hum an...

Re: Help Using External Microphone
Do a search here before you write the check. Someone may have had experiences with that microphone. One problem with USB microphones right at the top of the list is distance. You can't ever get more than one USB cable away from the computer which works out to about 3 meters / 10 feet. Also, we can p...

True, but you don't get the protective shield. In an electrically quiet room, you may not need it. Koz

Excellent. Yes, that's what I want to do with the hallway here at work. And if you move the mic too much either direction along the instrument, it starts sounding wimpy or boomy?

Re: Crackling, particularly with bass
If you're used to analog VU meters, this will come as a nasty surprise. You can't go over digital zero. At all. That produces instant and very obvious clipping and sound damage which sounds like the cracking and crunching you hear. On the blue waves in the work window, that will look like waves that...

Re: Rise Time
Since Audacity is a digital tool, I think it's instantaneous. I've run into problems where I get a serious click because I started a sine wave too quickly. You can use the Fade In and Fade Out tools to smooth the transition points. You calculate the fade time versus the frequency. Figure a Fade In i...
