While I crank through all that, I noticed that not once in that post to you tell us what the show is. What is it? I can feel the next request coming that eight people around a conference room table are intending to Skype into a conference with three other cities. You'll need to record both sides of ...

Re: AAC export resulting in very small file size
Find one of the older, successful files. Control-Click > Open With > QuickTime Player. Command-I to get the Info Panel.
Now do the same with one of the squeaky ones.
What's the difference between the two INFO panels?

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed
Banjo is not a resonant cavity. It's two soundboards closely coupled. If it does have a resonance, it's way up there and not likely to be musical.

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed
I thought it was square law, too. I did briefly consider a passive Helmholtz Resonator in the same room as the instrument tuned to the lower peak tone to keep the room and the instrument from resonating at the same place. If you did it just right, you could spend months moving the guitar, resonator,...

Re: budget (usb) mic for classical guitar recording needed
Guitars are guitar-shaped to keep the resonances from all piling up in one place. If they were round, they would sound like playing into a rain barrel. But they are resonant cavities on purpose, so they are going to have oddities. I wonder if that low note is the guitar body ringing end to end. Ther...

<<<jack plug to jack plug from the headphone socket to mic socket>>> That may not work so well on Windows laptop machines. That's a Deskside PC or Mac trick, not a Windows laptop tool. There is an updated wiki page. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer Koz
