Re: Can't get usable recording.
http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html Pull down the pinao2.wav from here and see if it plays OK. It's six second long and is a perfectly recorded WAV sound file. Then pull down and play the Left-Right-Mono test WAV file and play that. Can you hear all four segments? The last segment is intention...

<<<Probably sound rubbish, but at that price could be worth buying one to see if it is good enough for the job in hand.>>> And being a dynamic type of microphone, has to be larger and heavier to accommodate the magnets and diaphragm. <<<As they do not require power, it removes the need for the 8 lit...

<<<Phantom Power>>> That's good. You're catching on. Commercial, Theatrical, Phantom Power is a remote cousin (on his father's side) to what you're doing. They have exactly the same problem you do. Some top end microphones have electronics inside and need power to run. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity...

In Audacity 1.2 the bitrate is set in Preferences. What is yours set to?
Are the two versions available on-line somewhere so we can listen?
If they're short, you can post them here.

Re: Using Audacity to Find Orirgin of Sounds
Does the square law thing work underwater? You know when you're getting closer because the intensity of the buzzing starts changing way a lot as you move. It could also be suggested that the plowing thing wouldn't be as efficient as a random noise generated trajectory. I bet by the third pass you co...

Radio Shack used to make a cheap four channel microphone mixer. Part number 32-1106. They still offer the instruction book. That's all it did. It didn't have meters and it had very minimal electronics inside. I believe it delivered the show at microphone level, so you had to follow it with a "r...

And it's worked OK up until now, or it's never worked? Which Windows? Sudden Onset Computer Insanity can be caused by your hard drive filling up. Particularly if the crash recovery itself started crashing or acting oddly, that could mean it didn't have any place to put the finished show. Most comput...

Re: Hum When Using Audacity
We're all assuming the power system is introducing the hum. You can have a bad audio ground and get hum as well. Floating your computer on batteries makes it less necessary to have a perfect ground or shield. We had hum and buzz now and again in one of the conference rooms and it only vanished when ...

Toad Trip. It's in pre-production and I believe they're shopping around the promo and trailer. I have some of the V/O work in the next folder over on my desktop as I type this.
