Re: The audio sounds like crud

How do you have your turntable connected to your computer? Audio cable adapters? Can you get the model number of your turntable? ION-something something?

Re: No Playback Sound

I'd start by telling us exactly what kind of computer you have -- laptop? -- which operating system -- Windows XP? -- and exactly which audacity -- all three numbers. Audacity 1.2.6?

Re: Audacity freezing, skipping and crashing?

Computers fall apart pretty quickly when you try to do live audio and video. You can produce a huge spreadsheet recalculation or do complex graphics in Photoshop and the computer will just keep chugging away at it until it gets the work done. Get some coffee. Can't do that with live audio. When the ...

Re: Chimp??

Step one in jobs like this is to separate the voice from the rest of the music. That's the step you can't do. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Vocal_Removal Some of those tools will do vocal isolation. Voice Removal or Isolation --Center Pan Remover (Voice Remover--Search the page for "Center ...

Re: MP3 distortion

There should be..... Oh! Duh! You can do it in iTunes. Open iTunes Preferences and set CD Importing for MP3 - 128. Open the perfect WAV file in iTunes. Control-Click on the WAV file and "Create an MP3 Version." See what that sounds like. Note that iTunes considers 128 stereo only "goo...

Re: MP3 distortion

First item is I know how to deliver your work with no damage. Either 256 in "stereo," or shift to mono and leave it 128. The MP3 should unconditionally sound as good or very close to as good as the original performance. As to why that's happening I can suggest a couple of possibilities. Yo...

<<<when I try to record>>>

When you try to record what?

There's a lot of different responses hanging on that answer.

Re: How do you cover a song recording the music internally (

That's a little rough on a Mac because Macs don't have the internal ability to record themselves. But it can be done. First step is to get Audacity to record itself... http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer Then, in Audacity Preferences > Audio I/O > [X] Play track...

Re: MP3 distortion

We may be bumping into the natural limitation of MP3. Stereo show limit in MP3 is 64 not that far away from the 128 being used here. 64 is when about half the listeners can tell there's something wrong with a stereo show. I can make a clear MP3 export. Tracks > Stereo Track To Mono. Export as 128 MP...

Re: MP3 distortion

That is completely fascinating. I pulled down the perfect WAV clip and exported it as a 128 MP3 and it sounded trash. Audacity 1.3.7. I did notice that the background noise in the perfect WAV file is noticeably higher than the MP3. I haven't gone anywhere else with this yet. I also noticed the Audac...
