Re: Newbie Mixing Question
<<<Mix and Render does not do anything to adjust or correct the track levels - all selected tracks are mixed at their current volume level, exactly as if you were exporting the project (with "Export Selected").>>> That may be what yours does. What mine did was mix everybody together and di...

Re: Karaoke Recording?
<<<Karaoke machine has the standard audio inputs>>> Does it have audio outputs? You may be able to adapt a headphone output in a pinch. You'll probably be best served with a Line to USB adapter like the the UCA-202 reviewed here... http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 Koz

Re: Problems with Importing
You are trying to import a file that is in an unsupported format.
Convert the file to WAV format before importing.
Foobar2000 is a free audio player that is able to convert most audio file types.

Re: Newbie Mixing Question
<<<I suppose I could select all tracks and then ratchet down the gain on all collectively. >>> Yes, that's correct. When you play the whole composition, Audacity just adds everything up and it's totally not unusual to sail into peaking distortion when you do that. There is a tool called Tracks > Mix...

Re: Cant get mac osx to "hear" what I'm trying to record
<<<a myspace music stream>>> I wanted you to tell me that so I could say you can't do that. Macs have no internal ability to record their own show. Windows machines can do that, but even there it's getting more and more difficult. So we have to add software or hardware to our Macs. http://wiki.audac...

<<<So - Let's say, for example, that you are wanting to record the audio from YouTube:>>>
Let's not. "System Sound" can be anything from a MIDI simulator to the opening chime. What, without the fuzzy generalities, are you trying to do?

Re: Cant get mac osx to "hear" what I'm trying to record
Step one and two: Most modern Macs do not support Audacity 1.2, so you can go back and download Audacity 1.3.12 and use that. You don't have to uninstall 1.2, you can put both on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Everybody always arrives after the first act. "I want to record....

Re: Sound Card Reviews
Shure Brothers X2U http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/X2u/ This is a single, straight-line path sound channel from professional XLR-type microphone to the USB connection in your computer. You can read about it in the web pages. It's pretty amazing, but it does have a couple of shortcomings. -- A...

Re: Data files switch from *.au to *.auf and go silent
Audacity does not pull sound into itself for editing unless you changed it in Preferences and few people do. The practical impact of that is once you tell Audacity you want to use a sound file in your show, that sound file can't be changed or moved in any way. If you decided to use a portion of a Ni...

Re: No Playback Sound
See if Audacity Preferences are OK. Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > Playback (your windows may change from these). Vista does some really odd things with its "Sound Devices" and it's rough to keep up. See if any of that helps at all... http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Windows_...
