Audacity Preferences system can become damaged and this can cause Audacity to do very odd things -- and it can survive reinstalling. You have to sterilize the preference system separately.

How many characters are you putting in each label? If you lose count, then they're probably too long. They were intended to say things like "Cut One" and "Music Segment." The grownups keep a database that crosses the label with the actual shot information -- which can go for page...

Shows, or Audacity Projects have two parts. The AUP file is the show manager and it points to a _DATA folder with much if not all of the actual show in it. Both will be named similarly.
