Re: New track on the fly.

Can't you do that with Labels? I thought there was a hotkey you could use to put labels into a performance during capture. Then you can Export according to the labels and get a performance with "chapter markers" as well as a continuous performance if nobody hits stop.

Re: Error message when pressing record.

<<<Ugh, it's painful each time I switch from Linux back to Windows.>>>

I know how fuzzy-warm that ALSA Mixer can be.

Re: Make Audacity only record when it hears a asound?

Sound Activated Recording sometimes misses part of the first note and it might stop recording if you take a breath or have a short silent portion of the show. Much better to record everything and in post production, cut and slide individual performances until they line up. All the convenient editing...

Re: New track on the fly.

Even if you do get that to work, depending on settings, Audacity will try to play your old track while you're recording the new one.

Why do you need this? There may be another way around it.

Re: Export MP3 File

On a re-read. Are you still in Audacity 1.2? You posted in the 1.2 forum. If you are, you shouldn't be. Intel Macs under Leopard or Snow Leopard do not support Audacity 1.2. The combination produces sadness. It's rough to tell where Audacity 1.2 is going to fail, but it almost always does (my Audaci...

Re: Recording Volume

You're very clear what Normalize and Amplify do, right? They're variations on a theme. They don't adjust the volume note by note through the show. Only the compressors and processors do that. They set the overall volume once and that's the one single setting for the whole show. That's why the cat ha...

Re: Recording Volume

A lot of us take representative samples around to record to get a feel for overall volume. Needle drop four or five times. I don't know any other way. Some classical pieces are obvious. Saint Saens, 1812, etc. The needle drop itself can be the loudest thing in the show and must be removed before pro...

Re: Recording Volume

I do everything in 48000, 16-bit, Stereo. That's digital television sound standard. Purists will insist on 44100, 16-bit, Stereo if you're planning on making a Music CD, but I've never found any problem. Normalize can totally distort a show because it operates on left and right stereo sound independ...

Re: Export MP3 File

Let's do an experiment. Load one of the original sermons -- or a segment of one -- and then Tracks > Stereo Tracks to Mono. Did it suddenly get tinny? You used the wrong words to describe MP3 damage. If you have that, you generally use words like bubbly, gargly, honky, and space alien. Thin, no body...
