Re: Delay on voice in headphones when recording for Podcast
they recommend using the Skype built-in recording option Skype does offer a total recording option on their servers, but there have been complaints on the forum about the highly processed distortion. Everything sounds like a bad cellphone. And then there's the restriction that all the participants ...

Re: Fix nearly unavoidable nightmare audio
SM58PressureZone.jpg That's pre-production experiments. By the time I installed them, they were round and painted flat black and sitting on heavy black felt. That's a Shure SM58 from any rock band. I drilled a shallow round hole under the mic head to keep it from rolling around. That's black electr...

Re: Fix nearly unavoidable nightmare audio
The only trick I know of is to shoot it in wide stereo. I set that up for a director's screening of a production we were working on. I mic'ed the screening room with two directional microphones a good 9 feet apart pointing back to the audience plus a lower volume mono mic in the center. I hid the ti...

Re: Blue Yeti High Pitch- fixable in post, but can it stream?
Thanks for the test. If you do decide to read professionally, you'll need to do something about that boiler factory machine shop running behind you. Can you tell if the computer is on just by listening? Kiss of death. I've seen pictures of people using a Yeti wrong. It's a side-fire microphone. You ...

Re: ACX-Check Crashes Audacity
ACX Check can run out of resources and stop working. If you have good Room Tone (quiet background sound on both ends of your performance—as you probably should), then it's valid to drag-select the first half, check it, then drag-select the last half and check that. If you used our Audiobook Masterin...

Re: Client request to amplify at 0 db
Low Rolloff for Speech strips out rumble, thunder, earthquake, and microphone errors and noises. RMS Normalize changes the voice until the loudness reaches audiobook standards completely ignoring tips and peaks of the blue waves. Limiter gently reduces the tips and peaks completely ignoring the lou...

Re: Client request to amplify at 0 db
- Is there someway to check if I have done this correctly before sending to the client? 0dB is a magic loudness. You can't be completely sure of anything at that value, but you can get close with turning on View > Show Clipping. You should get some red marks in your work. That normally signifies di...

Re: Client request to amplify at 0 db
I always apply ACX mastering to all my projects Usually a good call, but that may fall apart if the client has to closely match other works to a different standard. Add a step at the end: Effect > Amplify > OK. The default Amplify effect pushes the voice up to maximum volume without distortion. Tha...

Re: Fixing "Robot" Voice
I couldn't get clip fix, normalize, or much else to do any good I couldn't either. Whoever recorded those created massive distortion. It's rough to recover from that. If somebody had a gun and forced me to "clean it up," I'd print out the words and get someone with a nice voice to read it...

Re: Simple Audacity Forum Voice Test
Ignore this for a while. LF_rolloff_for_speech.xml Some of this is going to seem stunningly painful, but you only have to go through it all once. Not only does the process give you the tools, but the tool settings stick each time you use them past the first time. I can master a short chapter in abou...
