Re: Distorted exported MP3 tracks

We need to stop addressing lame as if were one tight, tidy, neat bundle. It's not. This is the instruction page for lame in its native environment... http://linux.die.net/man/1/lame So that's, what, fourteen pages of settings and options -- and that's only on my monitor. It should surprise no one if...

Re: Audio From iTunes Messed Up

It depends a little on where the music came from. Is it purchased from the iTunes store? If it is, it may still have FairPlay copy protection on it. If that's the case, you can create an iTunes playlist with the song in it and burn the playlist to a Music CD. You'll need to get a blank CD-R for this...

Re: Presonus input disappears

It's insanely dangerous to pull the power on any computer equipment without gracefully shutting it down first. The machine will wake up in an unstable state as you're finding out. Apple > Shut Down... You can destroy a printer by pulling the power without shutting it down first. Bad idea. Bad, bad, ...

Re: Problem Recording DJ Mixes: Sound only from right speake

There's a way to test this without involving a lot of equipment. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Pull the RCAs out of the mixer and touch one at a time... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/touch.jpg The blue ball sound meter will jump when you do that. Do it to each RCA. ...

Re: Updated Chris's Dynamic Compressor

That's what I'm afraid of.

Is there a "Legacy" download for the old one?

You can put both versions on your machine, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Re: Help me with making a FM-AM RADIO talk simulation sound

There's another possibility here. If you're on a Windows machine and you're using the built-in sound card, you may be shooting yourself in the foot before you get much beyond hello. Many newer PC sound cards automatically incorporate voice conferencing processing, naturally assuming that you're a mi...

Re: removing echo

<<<Do you think it would be possible to do this automatically?>>> Probably not, but you might take a shot at Steve's Noise Gate... http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=1272 The premise is pretty simple. All sounds below a certain volume are reduced or deleted. "Echo Reduction"...

Re: Help me with making a FM-AM RADIO talk simulation sound

<<<Try it with the default settings, or increase the compression ratio amount up to about 0.7>>> That's the setting to approximate KPCC - LA FM broadcast compression. AM radio may be far worse -- I didn't check. Now you know why they still pay announcers/presenters. It's not that easy. I keep a list...
