Re: tried to switch to stero input, now won't record
<<<I use a small mixing board in to the sound card on the CPU. >>> Just a clue to the frustration you're going to have later (I predict). Do you have the sound board plugged into the Mic-In of your laptop? It's mono. Most Windows laptops do not have a stereo Line-In connection like large deskside PC...

I'm not one of the Windows Elves, but I can tell you one of the first questions we ask is whether or not you have a relationship with Skype. Skype viciously reassigns sound pathways to do what it needs to get the job done and what you want after the fact isn't relevant. Sometimes the pathways go bac...

Re: Editing to a very specific time target...?
I can do better than that. Newer Macs do not fully support Audacity 1.2. http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac Sooner or later, you're going to hit some particularly egregious 1.2 error and flush your show. You don't have to un-install 1.2. Just put 1.3.12 on top and it will pick up all your old...

Re: Setup for mobile recording with wireless mic?
Microphone systems are a dance between noise problems and clean, pure music. Each step in the process generates both and it's your job to make sure the music wins each time. "Condenser Microphones" work by slight movements of two metal plates inside the microphone. That's what your voice d...

Re: how do I know the dB?
MIDI isn't a sound program. MIDI is a music management program, so it's not concerned with sounds so low they only show up on a CalTech Seismometer or so high only dogs can hear them. The fact that Audacity can do these things is, in my opinion, an Audacity shortcoming. So for MIDI to deal with it, ...
