If you have an unfortunate combination of software and hardware, it's possible for the system to go insane and produce work that nobody can playback or recover.

Re: How to amplify certain sounds and decrease others??
You know the old spy movies where the two guys want to talk in private but they're in an unsecured room? They always turn a radio or TV on and talk over it because it's almost impossible to dig a conversation out of the resulting mess. It's still impossible. You may be able to suppress that one cons...

Re: Keep forgetting to stop my recording
By the way, I predict [holding fingers to forehead] that this isn't going to work for you. If you routinely forget to stop a recording to the point where your Mac goes into High Fan Seizure, then you're typically not doing a formal recording with a good quiet room, good microphone, highly paid perfo...

If a programming entity is willing to step forward and guarantee a software license and all that entails and is willing to negotiate a license fee acceptable to all concerned, then the door is open. Corporations don't do shareware (even though ours does) and the soft fuzzy nat...

<<<depends if you want the same inaudible out of balance original that the performers provided or if you want a single enjoyable cd to play.>>> That's what Chris does. For a time, some of the NPR shows were posted online "raw" from the production mixer with no compression or leveling at al...

<<<I shall have to disagree strongly against the idea that Open Source Software is in any way more risky than closed source.>>> I agree completely. And that's irrelevant. Corporations want to know who to sue when they call their lawyers/solicitors. If there is no corporate entity there, then they're...

I've been thinking about the best way to do this. You can cause Audacity to create markers, I think hot. Press a key sequence during the recording and a label will be placed on the time line. After the performance, you can cause Audacity to create individual sound files based on the labels. Scoop th...

Some computers will refuse to do that unless you take serious steps or add software.

But on the IT side, they have education and their job is to provide computing services safely with little or no interruption to the corporation. The Low Hanging Fruit is to immediately exclude any uncontrolled, experimental, or Beta software. That's the "If there's nobody in authority, it doesn...
