<<<When connecting the tape deck to laptop I use Mic/line-in.>>> Probably not. Most laptops have a low level, mono, Microphone-In and not a high level, Stereo, Line-In. The two are very different. Try setting your systems to mono instead of stereo and I bet it starts working. It won't be useful, but...

Re: Won't Play

<<<I'm using Audacity 1.3 Beta on Windows XP, and every time I import a file, the programme won't play it.>>> Where are you getting the music from? Audacity will not open up many different types of compressed, protected, or processed sound tracks. If Audacity partially recognizes the sound, it may p...

Re: I tried to append record, but....

I tried two different things in Audacity 1.3.12 on my MacBook Pro. I made a simple recording and pressed Stop. I pressed Shift-R and Audacity put my new voice right on the end of the current recording no matter where my cursor is. I did it several more times and in each case, I got a new voice at th...

Re: Drag the play cursor?

Labels did become a good deal more talented in Audacity 1.3.12. You might try that. You can safely install both versions, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Re: Drag the play cursor?

Do you do video editing? What you want to do is called scrubbing. Moving the cursor back and forth over the edit point manually instead of letting the program do it. JoooowitDah Jooowit wit wit it [Mark-In] And that's the other thing Audacity won't do. It doesn't have Mark-In and Mark-Out for an edi...

Re: Making "tracks" in one large MP3 Opera music file

I probably wouldn't be doing this in Audacity 1.2. Get 1.3.12 from here and install that. http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can install both versions, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2. This is a piece on splitting up single long recordings into CD tracks. ht...

Re: Submit your EQ Curves

It's not perfect because the Q of the filter and the defined points don't match.

Re: I tried to append record, but....

You have contradictory complaints.

If Audacity can't Append Record, where did the original track come from? Typically, it's a really bad idea to mix and match different sound tracks.

Re: Good hardware set-up for recording a class or lecture?

Is it too late to get your money back for the iMic? I would be recording the show on your little videotape machine and dub the sound over to the MacBook in post production, assuming you are happy with the work that the tape machine produces. Nowhere is it written that you have to use the video on a ...
