Re: Strange problem with Audacity
<<<Hey everyone I am currently trying to record something using my Line 6 Pod X3 and Audacity >>> Actually, you're trying to run Audacity on a Windows machine using a Line-6 as a USB interface. What kind of Windows machine? XP? One of the problems with USB interface is volume control. Depending on t...

Re: Can you hear your audio (on a keyboard) while recording?
<<<I understand Audacity doesn't record MIDI >>> And not likely to, either. MIDI is a music action scripting language, it's not sound or actual music. A typical MIDI instruction (as applied to a MIDI keyboard) can cause middle C on a Grand Piano to be pressed with light force and stay pressed for th...

<<<When exporting in a lossy compressed format, the bit rate (and hence the file size) remains the same irrespective of the number of audio channels>>>
True, but the quality goes up and down. Mono at 64 works much better than Stereo at 64.

Re: How would I turn volume up on one track?
If you're trying to match two portions of a show, you can use the bouncing lights meters. Watch the bouncing lights and guess at the average bounce of the good show. Play the bad show and watch the bouncing. Guess at the average. Let's say the bad show bounces on average six dB lower than the good s...

Re: How would I turn volume up on one track?
You need to understand the Amplify tool. When you launch Amplify, the amount of amplification is automatically selected to make the portion as loud as possible without damage. Digital audio has a maximum loudness beyond which you can cause serious damage. You don't have to use that value. You can ty...

Re: How would I turn volume up on one track?
You can click anywhere on the blue waves in the timeline and Play (or SpaceBar Play) will start from that point. Home key and End key work, too. Drag-select a portion of the show and Control-E will zoom into that portion. Control-F will zoom out full. Control-3 will zoom out a little bit. Other zoom...

Re: Podcasting: Fan Noise
<<<why are those usb headsets so popular?>>> They get around a lot of "microphone" problems. On a Mac, you have no choice. There is no Mic-In. On Windows, you have to struggle with the analog "Skype" microphone contouring that many laptops come with now. We routinely run into ana...

Re: Multi, multi channel
<<<there is some good stuff out there to buy that does 4 channels >>> Again, that's an example. The client/producer changes her mind and I need five. My Macbook fails and we need to use her Dell WinXP laptop. In that particular case, the ability to record analog Stereo Line-In will die with the Mac,...

<<<I have switched it from stereo to mono, but that didn't cut at all.>>> That one bothers me a little bit. You have a show on the timeline and it clearly has two tracks like this... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono This should give you a display wi...
