Re: Multi, multi channel

The Great Turtlenecked Father in Cupertino has determined that Macs won't support FireWire any more. My last purchase was determined in large part by the availability of the FireWire connection. Not all have them any more. [email protected]#S^$% All my machines have only one FireWire port and multiple USB. FireWir...

Re: Recording Guitar Solos has poor quality

Sorry. I went right over that. Most modern Windows laptops have settings to tailor your microphone for video or audio conferencing. They're business machines. They do auto sound volume and echo cancellation, which during a conference is a good thing, but during a guitar solo, can drive you nuts. We ...

Re: Recording Guitar Solos has poor quality

Nobody hit the obvious yet? The poster is recording with conferencing or communications settings still running. "Gets louder and softer by itself?" Windows 7. New Machine? What settings do we know that can do that to a Windows machine? The other thing that can cause high distortion on a &q...

Re: Recording a radio play

Hmmm. Olympus recorder. Two possible problems. Voice recorders tend to have custom fidelity curves because most people want a clear, not necessarily pleasant voice. Some of the microphones are directional. Try putting the Olympus on two or three layers of folded bath towel or maybe wash cloth in the...

Re: Recording a radio play

It's those "yaddas" that kill you. I wish I had a better idea what they were doing. Some shows kill production tools immediately because of physical limitations. But yes, I have wrapped a conventional microphone in multiple layers of flannel (Duvetyne) and left it in the middle of the tabl...

<<<I have an AUX cable directly routed from the X-Fi soundcard to an M-AUDIO pre-amp that can be powered either by USB or AV power. I have it powered using AC power source.>>> Nowhere in that post did you say " I plugged the USB cable in." Is that what you're talking about when you say the...

Re: Selecting Small Increments of Time

If you have the zoom thing already working, then the only thing left is to turn off Snap-To on the lower edge of the Audacity work window.

Re: Recording a radio play

When we get further on with this, I'm going to kill the dining room table idea. They're very difficult to use without oddball sound effects because of wooden reflections and other noises. Plus, it kills multiple people using one microphone closely. Yes, you can do that with a mixing desk and multipl...
